WeSERVE Awarded Human Services Grant
PRESS RELEASE For More Information DeAnn Graham WeSERVE, Program Director 571.781.2722 deann@weserveva.org For Immediate Release Dumfries, Virginia, April 17, 2021 – WeServe Community Development Corporation is proud to announce that it has been awarded the Human Services Alliance for Greater Prince William to assist in the Prince William Area Disaster Program. WeSERVE partners with the National Capital Region, USDA, Walmart, Food Lion, Costco and other local organizations to distribute tons of food every year to individuals in need. However, WeSERVE recognized to need to reach the many people who cannot travel to WeSERVE’s physical location to receive food during its monthly distribution. Eugene McCown, President of WeSERVE said: “This grant will make a huge difference in the lives of the people living in our area and in the Northern Virginia Community.” The Human Services grant will enable WeSERVE to address a greater need through the WeSERVE Mobile Food Distribution Pop-Up site. The Mobile Distribution Service will allow WeSERVE to travel along the Route 1 Corridor in Prince William County and serve individuals and families that are in need who do not have transportation to visit or transport food from our local facility. It will also enable WeSERVE to purchase and offer other healthier, more well-rounded meal items such as fresh fruit, vegetables, whole grains, protein foods and legume, to support their physical well-being. WeSERVE Awarded Food Lion Grant
Dumfries, VA – There is an increased demand in the communities around the Nation as well as the organizations that serve them due to the outbreak of the Corona Virus. WeSERVE has been dedicated to meeting the expanded need during this Pandemic and with the help of a few local partners, we will continue this work. On June 18, 2020, Food Lion, in conjunction with the Capital Area Food Bank (CAFB), awarded a $2,000 Grant to WeSERVE CDC! Food Lion recognizes the efforts of WeSERVE in reducing the hunger map in Northern Virginia during this unprecedented time. This grant will allow WeSERVE to stock our pantry and enhance the services provided. We are so grateful to have their support! A very large Thank You from WeSERVE to Food Lion for their generosity with providing the necessary funding needed as we continue to support the nourishment of our community impacted during this Pandemic. WeSERVE Awarded CAFB Food Grant
Dumfries, VA – There is an increased demand in the communities around the Nation as well as the organizations that serve them due to the outbreak of the Corona Virus. WeSERVE has been dedicated to meeting the expanded need during this Pandemic and with the help of a few local partners, we will continue this work. On June 1, 2020, the Capital Area Food Bank (CAFB) awarded a $7,200 Food Grant to WeSERVE CDC! The CAFB recognizes the efforts of WeSERVE in reducing the hunger map in Northern Virginia during this unprecedented time. This grant will allow WeSERVE to stock our pantry with dry goods that can be distributed over several months. We are so grateful to have their support! Our volunteers are working tirelessly to organize each shipment of food as it’s delivered to our storehouse. A very large Thank You from WeSERVE to CAFB for their generosity with providing the necessary funding needed as we continue to support the nourishment of our community impacted during this Pandemic. #GivingTuesday Initiative
Today is #GivingTuesdayNow! WeSERVE has been a staple in the community during this critical time in history. The pandemic has swept the Nation, yet, we are doing our part to help families and communities during this difficult time. Thus far . . . We’ve donated masks & lunch to nurses on the front line, Kept our community informed with CARES Act by hosting two (2) webinars with a wealth of information, We continue to serve with Food donations via monthly Food Pantry, and have plans to expand our community support by offering online training workshops that will give our community the tools they need to soar! Your gifts will help us with “Serving Families, Meeting Needs and Building Community.” Together we not only can, but we WILL get through this! Over 150 Hams Given Away!
Ham Giveaway Recap January 6, 2020 (Dumfries, Virginia) - The January "Ham Giveaway" and Food Distribution was a great success and was made possible by Walmart of Woodbridge! On Saturday and Sunday, we were able to distribute over 100 hams to those in Dumfries, Quantico, Triangle, Woodbridge, Stafford and Alexandria. With the help of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. - Omicron Alpha Lamba Chapter, we were able to reach another 50 families in Fredericksburg. WeSERVE Community Development Corporation is a 501c3 organization who's mission is to equip people within our community with the necessary skills and resources needed to help build a stronger and better community.
